June 2011 Entries
Print Monthly July 2011 - By Ben Welch
Horizon, Kodak, Komori, Shuttleworth, Renz, Kern, Vision Paper and Board and a range of other suppliers came together for two weeks in June at the Intelligent Finishing Solutions (IFS) showroom under the banner of 'Print Efficiently'.

Smaller printers once viewed MIS as an avoidable expense, but not any more. Following the recession, they realise cost measuring is now a critical business necessity
To the outsider, it used to look like a black art: scribblings on the back of cigarette packets, tight, illegible handwriting in day books, prices plucked seemingly from nowhere and the minutiae of a job stored only in the deep recesses of the print boss’s brain.
But then MIS came and demystified the process, displaying that business minutiae in charts, tables and graphs for all to understand, and breaking down quotes to the smallest quantum of cost. Computers took over – and not just in the estimating department, every facet of a print business could be broken down into binary code and calculated with cold, electronic precision. Massive benefits were accrued as a result; so much so that it is now commonly held that for all but the very smallest print businesses, an MIS is an essential business tool.
Customers that have attended the Print Efficiently event this week have been show the latest integration from pre-press workflow to MIS, from plate making to print (offset and digital) and onto finishing.
Bryan Aplin, Business development Manager at Shuttleworth has reported “Customers can actually see the live JDF files moving around the workflow in real time and it has enabled them to see how new technologies can work together offering real business benefits by increasing efficiencies and reducing costs”.
Partners at Print Efficiently include Shuttleworth, Horizon, Kodak, Komori and many more companies have come together to show a complete workflow solution that will help you to be more productive, more cost effective and ultimately increase profit. The event is running for 3 days next week on 14 – 16 June and is hosted by IFS at its showroom in Perivale, West London.
The event is free to attend and you will be able to ask questions and get advice and information on any aspect of the print workflow.
